Testimonial about Krav Maga and its necessity in modern culture

I was lucky enough to stumble onto Krav Maga about a year ago and since my first session have been addicted to the sheer intensity and joy of it. Prior to doing Krav Maga I did boxing and felt I had the tools to handle myself readily in any situation. However, it wasnt until I started KM that I realised the physical side to self defence is only 20% at best. The mentality that KM drills in, to never give up, to keep fighting even when youre too tired and scared to form a coherent thought. Thats the difference. I know this to be true as I personally experienced all this being put to the test recently. While on a night out with a friend I was confronted by multiple attackers who seemed to believe that strength in numbers meant they didnt have to worry about any sort of meaningful retaliation or attack. After being struck once while sitting down (My first mistake) KM took over and using a basic upper cut punch I dispatched the first man, I used my momentum to maintain the attack and the second man who was obviously stunned at being confronted so quickly stepped back and left himself open for a straight right punch. The first two men were on the floor at this point and one of their girlfriends attempted to scratch my face/eyes, again with KM there was no hesitation and I removed the threat with another straight right. Stepping away a third man got in close enough to try and wrestle me (my second mistake) and another grabbed me from behind (my third mistake). I held the first man and threw knees up into his face and chest which nullified that threat. By this time others had joined in the huddle and were throwing punches, after doing group attacks at KM I was scared as I knew what could happen if I was overwhelmed or gave up, but I didnt panic, kept moving and throwing elbows, knees, headbutts and punches, after some wrestling i managed to grab the man on my backs groin. Unsurprisingly he released me and attempted to get away. After fighting free, the bouncers ushered me out and reviewed the CCTV footage only to conclude that it was all in self defence and I had done well to come out completely unscathed. Apart from a bite on my leg where one of the men was lying, wishing he hadnt assumed sheer numbers outweighed fighting spirit and tenacity in a fighting situation.
Krav Maga saved me a long stay in hospital or worse and I owe my aggression and techniques to training with Adam and all the other instructors at KMG

Dear Mr Anderson I have been a practitioner of a few martial art systems, mainly Japanese in origin, so I will never knock any as they all have something to offer. However, in my point of view, Krav Maga has the benefit of NOT taking years of practice and study for a student to have a fighting chance in a situation, that nobody would want to be in. From the very start your insight to the realities of a violent situation, not just the physical, but also the psychological aspects that will affect us are addressed. You made me re-evaluate my personal strategy and have given me back my confidence. The fantastic, amazing martial arts moves that we see portrayed with impeccable timing at demos, are good for the movies, but to be effective in the street takes years of practice. Krav Maga is the first system I have come across, and you the first instructor to have said as much. Not only do you state this fact you prove it. Yes Krav can be as technical as you like, but the initial training is straight forward to learn, with instant results. Its purpose being you have that fighting chance to get away. You are not teaching how to score points, or how to look graceful with pretty moves. You drummed into me "this is not a sport, it is about getting to go home." Thank you, Fraser, for giving me some of your time, knowledge and experience, It was a fantastic day. I will be back for more, guaranteed...

I was very unsure what to expect at krav maga - I had researched it obviously - but nothing prepares you for the actual doing it. WHAT A RUSH !!! Real life scenarios. Techniques that even a novice like me can see will work and a nicer bunch of trained killers you are not likely to meet!! All for a tenner ?? Can't wait to get finished at uni and get back ! See you Soon !

I began training with Fraser and his team after wasting several months training at the supposed 'biggest club in scotland' - the difference in the quality of training is immense and I'm glad I took the advice given - ' why buy a mini when you can just as easily get a ferrari..?'' - this still makes me laugh. There are other classes closer to me but this is one of those times where 'going the extra mile' is well worth it. Since becoming part of KM Scotland [ and he makes EVERYONE feel like they belong ] I can tell you I have improved at a great rate of knots. It was never my intention to become a 'warrior' or join an MMA club - I just wanted an honest to goodness, down to earth course of instruction in learning how to improve my chances should things go pear shaped - I have more than surpassed my expectations and feel confident in my abilities and attitude. I am fitter, stronger and more agile than I have ever been in my life [ although still regarded as wooden so you can only imagine how I used to be...] - my awareness and general perception of what goes on around me is greatly improved and my keeness to learn is matched every inch of the way by my instructor - in my opinion quite rightly placed as the highest in Scotland. Thank you.
Ian

Fraser I cannot say how pleased we are in the training package you have put together. A fantastic experience, extremely well structured, fabulously delivered and in all a great introduction to Krav Maga. We are really looking forward to progressing with yourself and taking all the training as far as we can. Thank you for your personal time and total dedication, Id almost expected to get an off the shelf type type course, which I was offered by many other providers, however you listened to everything we needed and exceeded in the delivery! Its rare Im totally satisfied with anything I get but on this occasion I am totally blown away! Huge thanks to John and Karen for all of their personal input which complimented all of the input you gave us. Nice people, great professionals. A testament to KM Scotland

Dear Sir/Madam, Krav Maga KM Scotland I refer to the above and would like to provide a recommendation and reference with regards to the above company. I have in the past year utilised the services of KM Scotland for various personal safety events that I have organised. I have found both the delivery and content of the presentation to be highly professional and all correspondence and arrangements have been dealt with in a reliable manner with absolutely no problems in any aspect of the work. This company was recommended to me by another officer and have now become part of our established safety events recognised by other officers as a trustworthy company to employ. I have no concerns regarding either the professionalism or content of the presentations and hold both the company and the organisers in high regard. Should you wish to clarify any of the contents of this letter please contact me at the details below.

''We are unable to publish the headed letter but if you need a copy of the original letter for an official recommendation please mail me and I will send a copy to you'' Fraser, on behalf of the participants at St Andrews Woman's Safety Course and the Community Safety Panel may I thank you and your colleagues for your self defence input. The consensus of opinion was that your input was not only enjoyable and thought provoking but realistic and useful. My aim was to offer the women attending the 4 week course an increased awareness of personal safety that they can adapt to everyday life. You gave us useful advice on avoidance of danger and confrontation but also how to respond when faced with violence or threat. The strength of Krav Maga is, in my opinion, it's simplicity. The techniques you demonstrated were simple to learn and were performed by people of all ages and levels of ability and it is for that reason that I believe them to be genuinely useful. So popular was the Krav Maga that I have already received requests for another course and I look forward to seeing you again at the forthcoming Cupar Woman's Safety Course.
Joanne Francis Community Safety Officer Fife Constabulary

Dear Fraser, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you and your organisation for the excellent and interesting demonstration you provided to our recent Women's Safety Event in Dalgety Bay. I have had a 100% satisfaction return on the evaluations I have carried out and can honestly say that your professionalism and enthusiasm shone through. Myself and other officers involved are currently considering signing up for your courses as they were so effective and provided an excellent training method that I certainly was previously unaware of and would benefit us in our daily duties. Your presentation could not have been better received and I look forward to working with you at the forthcoming Cowdenbeath safety events. An excellent presentation by enthusiastic and professional individuals which I would certainly recommend.
PC Kenny Greig Community Safety Officer Fife Police Community Safety Dept Police HQ Glenrothes

Dear Fraser, Once again, on behalf of the East Neuk and District Community Safety Panel, I must thank you for an extremely informative and popular demonstration of Krav Maga at our Womans Safety Course. As I stated before, this particular presentation concluded a five-week course which covered all aspects of womans safety at home, work and leisure. My concern however was that such a defence class might have instilled some degree of fear and alarm which would have contradicted the purpose of the course. Your presentation however could not have proved more successful as the feedback from all those who attended was extremely positive and I am sure you will agree, our participants left the course confident and assured. Thanks again for your enthusiasm and professionalism and I look forward to working with you at the next course which is scheduled for September
PC Mark Anderson Community Safety Officer.

I started training in Krav Maga to help me in my current job. After training for a number of weeks, I now feel much more confident in dealing with the often violent residents I'm employed to care for.
Amanda Manon Mental Health Nurse

"In an age where our judiciary system is failing on every level to deal with the spiraling rise in violent crime, (BBC news in Scotland quote 24/5/06: Approx. 1 death in Scotland per week as a result of knife attacks) isn't it reassuring to know that there's an organisation who can tutor you in modern, relevant evasion/counter-attacking techniques. Krav Maga unlike traditional martial arts will from the outset, teach you to be instinctive and to be confident in handling realistic, everyday situations . It's fun, friendly and above all it keeps you fit. Don't rely on amnesties preventing you from being another Government statistic. And yes, It can happen to you. Seriously consider Krav Maga as a worthwhile investment in maintaining your health and well-being."
Dave Sharpe (Student of KM Scotland)

"Krav Maga emphasises training against the reality of threats and attacks, using very effective techniques that build on your instinctive reactions. Fraser and Marcus know their stuff and teach in a clear, concise manner. I'd recommend their classes to anyone looking for a self defence system that works.
Mark Kirke, Solicitor

Cupar & District Community Safety Panel in conjunction with PC Mark Anderson, Community Safety Officer, recently sponsored a five session Woman's Safety Course at Cupar Police Station. The topics covered included Personal Safety, Fire Safety, Road Safety, Domestic Abuse, Alcohol, First Aid, Resuscitation and Self Defence. PC Mark Anderson said, This course was very well attended and intended to be light hearted with a serious message and the participants received a certificate on completion. It has proved so popular that I have already arranged a similar course, which is to be sponsored by the East Neuk Community Safety Panel, in May with plans to repeat it in St Andrews in the autumn. If the interest shown in this event is a measure of the demand for this type of course we may look to hold them more regularly. Liz Woodcock, Chairperson of the Panel said, We covered a wide spectrum of safety issues. The most exciting and empowering event was the evening learning self-defence based on Krav Maga from instructor Fraser Anderson. He showed us how to escape from situations such as chokes, grabs, and bear hugs. Some of us are very petite and I couldn't believe how easy it was to learn these simple techniques.
Women's Safety Course.

"The most effective self defence class I have ever participated in. Instruction is clean, clear and easy to follow. For anyone who wants to learn any form of self defence this IS the one to learn .A real life, tried and tested self defence class that anyone can learn.
Kyle Cook, Electrical Engineer

I have always been looking for a self defence class that incorporates all the aspects I want to learn in one class, that is: To be confident that I would be able to deal with an attack from anyone, work with an adrenaline rush instead of panicking and freezing, I don't want to be just another victim. My standard not being judged against anyone else I'm training with, I don't have to compete against anyone, I'm there just to learn for ME. I have tried several different types of martial arts and enjoyed them but none seemed to be just what I was looking for. I found they taught conditioned attacks and defences, which was good in classes when fighting someone that you knew all the same moves and techniques that they did, you knew what to expect and worked with opponents at the same level as you. Krav Maga teaches you to always expect the unexpected, always be aware of potential threats that may surround you. It shows you how to take measures to avoid a situation, but if it is inevitable, you have already analysed the event before it happens, you are prepared and thus have the upper hand. It does teach precise techniques but the instructors show you how you can adapt the move if it doesn't go strictly to plan, its not just text book situations. The instructors are great, they make sure you fully understand what you have to do, they give you individual attention and will go over a technique as many times as you want to make sure you are comfortable with it. It shows you that you can defend yourself against anyone regardless of their or your size and strength. Personally, I have found THE ONE class that covers everything I want to learn but hope I never need to use it. You should give it a try, I'm sure you'd love it too!
Heather Dickson

I've been going to the 2-hour weekly classes for approximately two months now. I like that the moves are not based on your strength because as a female I used to often find play fights with male friends end up with them overpowering me. Now I feel more confident in any situation, particularly when walking alone or on a night out. The instructors are friendly and approachable. The moves are quick to learn and effective. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Paula Barbour

The 6 week course has been great. Not just through the physical side but also increasing confidence in the participator. I would certainly recommend Krav Maga to anyone and certainly to anyone who has in the past been attacked and lacks that confidence or ability to relax on a night out. Frasers teaching method is excellent. There is no pressure to perform enabling you to go at your own pace to perfect the moves demonstrated, which are shown step by step. All in all I loved it and look forward to continuing! Thank you.
Neil Ryan - I.T. Engineer

I'd been put off learning martial arts because I didn't want to fight as a sport. All I wanted to know was how to get away if I was attacked and Krav Maga seems to fit the bill. You don't have to be young and super-fit - I'm not, but I've already learned a lot in just a few weeks. Everyone at the class is very friendly and the more experienced students are very keen to help the beginners.''
